A Weighty Problem

One of the most important things you can do to protect your dogs’ health is to control their weight, and the benefits for your dog are undeniable. Plus, you will save on Vet bills!

Maintaining a healthy diet suitable for your dog, and excluding unnecessary or unsuitable treats, is crucial. Teach your dog from an early age to enjoy healthy treats – try carrot sticks, strawberries or banana. It is also important to keep them active, so take them to the dog park or some days in doggie daycare might help to keep them active playing with other dogs. Remember, they only know the foods that you introduce them too (dogs do not need to eat fries!) and calories are almost doubled for them – so a burger for you counts as two for Fido.

Healthy weight protects the joints in your dogs’ legs from undue stress and resulting injury or arthritis. It means better organ function and reduces abdominal discomfort. It significantly reduces the potential for heart disease, diabetes and high blood pressure.

And most importantly, it can add years to the life of your precious dog!
