Aren’t March and April lovely months? The weather is still warm (though not quite so warm), school and work routines have settled in and plans are being made for the next holiday period. Every weekend is a great opportunity to enjoy local experiences with the whole family, including your dog!
Dog Day at Warratina Lavender Farm
The beautiful Warratina Lavender Farm in Wandin North (just one hours drive east of the CBD in the Yarra Ranges, and close to our dog kennels in Silvan) is a must-visit for all Melburnians, and especially dog lovers on March 6th, as they host their first-ever Dog Day! There will be ‘Best In Show’ and agility competitions for those that wish to participate, plus Vets, Groomers and Photographers to meet. Try the Lavender Ice-cream, and grab a treat for your dog too!
Also on March 6th, the township of Inverleigh (located 30 kms west of Geelong, an hour and a half from Melbourne) hosts the annual Inverleigh Dachshund Derby – a chance for Dachshunds and all little breeds to shine! Dogs of all sizes are welcome to attend, and all ‘littlies’ (under 30cm at the shoulder) can compete in a variety of events for just $15. There will be all sorts of stalls to explore, and plenty of food and merchandise available too.
Sniffari with Gourmet Pawprints
On Saturday 19th March take your dog on a “Sniffari” around Port Phillip Bay, exploring Queenscliff and Sorrento, and including a trip on the fabulous ferry between the two. It is a full day with easy walks, morning tea, lunch, and even snacks for your dog.
Get along to Paint for Fun’s studio in Port Melbourne on March 20th for an afternoon painting a portrait of your dog. The event is designed for beginners so no experience is required, and a teacher is on hand to guide you in techniques. And the best part – your dog can be with you the whole way!
If you prefer something a bit more adventurous you’ll love Animal Aid’s Adventure Dog day on April 3rd – together you’ll tackle obstacle courses, bush tracks and waterways (maybe a little mud too) in Wandin. And when you’ve conquered the course you can enjoy all the food and activities the event village offers. It really is a great bonding event for you and your dog, and you can raise money for a great cause along the way.
And of course if you are planning any humans-only activity you can give your dog an adventure at any of our dog kennel locations – they can enjoy doggie daycare, or stay for the weekend with mates while you make the most of our great city!
