Fluffy Coated Dogs

Fluffy Coated Dogs

When it comes to coat maintenance, owning a fluffy dog is not easy! It takes time and dedication to keep up with the needs that the long coat demands, and no two long coated dogs are the same. Many breeds even have a double coat, making them incredibly cute and fluffy but quite difficult to maintain.

There are essential steps to take right from the start to keep your dog looking and feeling their best –

  1. Start gently brushing your dog from the day they come home – it should be a relaxed and bonding time with your puppy, to help them get used to having their ears, feet, tail and chest brushed.
  2. Commence regular groom visits at an early age – from around 4 months old, a visit every 8 to 12 weeks can save your dog a lot of discomfort and create a positive experience for your dog for the rest of their grooming life.
  3. Remain consistent with your dog’s daily grooming and brushing needs – 10 to 20 minutes spent brushing every day will help keep your dog’s coat beautiful and healthy.

Regular appointments with a professional groomer will form an essential part of your dog’s health care – and the best part is that the Groomer can do a lot of the work for you! They can remove any particularly difficult and uncomfortable matting, safely trim nails and clean ears, and advise you of any changes they have noticed in your dogs’ condition that may need veterinary attention. They can check for ticks, and even take care of your flea and worming treatments. Letting your groomer know how you’d like your dog’s coat to look is the best way to find out what you can do at home to maintain it.
