A different type of working dog

Meet Donut – regular guest at Dogdayz Silvan, and fully trained working dog. As a Hearing Assistance Dog, he is both a great companion and an essential part of day-to-day life for his owner.

At home it is his job to alert his owner to many of the noises that those of us with full hearing take for granted – a knock at the door, the oven timer, the telephone ringing. It is also his job to alert her to more serious sounds like a smoke detector alarm, a crying child or even an intruder. He has learned to signal her in a specific way, and then lead her either toward the sound if she is needed, or away from it if there is danger.

Out in public Donut keeps his owner safe by listening out for car horns, sirens and alarms, elevator and traffic signals, allowing his owner to live a safe and independent lifestyle.

All this means that Donut is on duty 24 hours a day!

We love having him at Dogdayz, where he is free to take his own holiday – playing with his mates, his favourite toys, and enjoying a dip in the pool every now and then.

Keep up the hard work Donut – you’re amazing, and we are pleased to know you!
